(BLANK) HOUSE Games is looking for Ren’Py Programmers to help with the production of Keyframes: First Summer!
Hired programmers will be tasked with implementing and manipulating our various assets (such as our sprites, backgrounds, soundtracks etc.) for a written script, bringing the narrative we have planned to life. The work to be done requires a mindful, and creative eye as we believe that the visuals and audio support the branching narratives and perspectives our characters can have.
The deadline to apply is April 30th, 2026. After that period, the studio leads will reach out to potential hires for a second round consisting of a paid test with a short script.
Rate: Minimum $20 USD per hour; rate can be negotiated!
Working Duration: Up until Keyframes: First Summer is made
Location: Fully remote
Programmer Responsibilities
- Read and familiarize yourself with the narrative to accurately add the correct visuals and audio to the scene,
- Creatively manipulate the assets via Ren’Py’s ATL language and text tags,
- Make use of the conditional logic within the game for visual or audio differences given the narrative,
- Incorporate feedback and revisions to working files at the request of the directors of the game.
Programmer Requirements
- Must be 21 years old or older
- Experience with Git/Github for collaborative version control
- Experience with Ren’Py as an engine and its scripting language
- Must be comfortable with a fast and iterative working cycle
- Must be welcoming to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities
- (BLANK) HOUSE Games is made up of unapologetic allies and members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. We do not tolerate those with hate toward our community.
- No AI use/vibe coding; we do not condone any use of AI in this studio.
What would make you stand out
The following would make for a strong application though it’s not necessary for you to meet them to apply.
- Previous experience working on Visual Novels
- Bonus points if you directed one yourself or participated in the writing production.
- Familiarity with Keyframes and its cast
- This project is scoped to be a massive game with ever changing dynamics between the player character and our main cast that gets reflected in the visuals and audio
The Gameplay
The following are gifs (compressed and only a sample of the kind of visuals found within the game) of our First Spring demo. To note, Keyframes makes liberal use of the ATL language within Ren’py, and tediously manipulates each sprite to evoke emotion or emulate natural body language/speech.
